Dhaka Central International Medical College (DCIMC) is a private medical institution situated in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It offers a five-year MBBS course that is approved by the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC), the Medical Council of India (MCI), the World Health Organization (WHO), and the Government of Bangladesh. The University of Dhaka is affiliated with DCIMC, and the BMDC recognizes it.
The course of study is five years long, and it leads to a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Dhaka University. After passing the final professional examination, there is a mandatory one-year internship. The internship is a prerequisite for obtaining registration from the BMDC to practice medicine.
Despite doctors and supporting health professionals being the backbone of the healthcare delivery system, the healthcare professionals to population ratio in Bangladesh is still one of the lowest in the world. Currently, the doctor population ratio in Bangladesh is 1:3125. The available seats in medical colleges, both public and private sectors combined, are insufficient to meet the country’s growing demand for healthcare professionals.
Many students in the country are willing to participate in the healthcare system, which is evidenced by the large number of applicants to medical colleges. Unfortunately, due to a lack of available seats, most eligible candidates are deprived of the opportunity to enroll in medical colleges in Bangladesh. This results in confusion over their career planning, and their dreams of becoming doctors are dashed.
Moreover, thousands of students migrate to neighboring countries for their studies, which drains the national economy and leads to a dependence on other countries for education and healthcare delivery. In this context, Dhaka Central International Medical College is a humble initiative to provide opportunities for eligible candidates to contribute to Bangladesh’s healthcare sector. DCIMC was founded by some of the most generous business entrepreneurs, doctors, and philanthropists.
