Overview of Lumbini Medical College (LMC) Palpa

Lumbini Medical College (LMC) is located in Palpa, a hilly district about 3OO kilometers west of Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital city.

Palpa, located at an elevation of 1350 meters, offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas as well as recreational opportunities such as hiking and paragliding.

The weather is pleasant all year, with an annual temperature of 20.6 degrees Celsius. The annual rainfall average is 4 mm.

LMC was founded with the goal of making Palpa a world-class center for education, health, and tourism. The establishment of a medical college in a hilly district was not an easy task, owing primarily to geographical constraints, but Lumbini Medical College has now been in operation for more than thirteen years.

On 2062/08/26 (11 December 2005), the college was registered as a private limited company with the Registrar of Companies, and on 2071/01/03 (16 April 2014), it was converted to a public limited company.

The college also received a letter of permission in principle from the Ministry of Health and Population, dated 2063/09/19 (03 January 2007), to operate a 300-bed hospital. In 2008, Lumbini Medical College established its academic foundation by launching a certificate level nursing program (PCL nursing), and a year later, in 2009, an MBBS program was launched and is still going strong. In 2015, a postgraduate course was added in collaboration with Kaplan University.

The college is fully committed to providing quality health care services to the rural people of Palpa and surrounding districts through its teaching hospital. It currently serves over a million people in the districts of Palpa, Gulmi, Arghakhanchi, Syangja, and parts of Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, and Nawalparasi.

Several classes of medical and nursing students have graduated and are now working in prestigious national and international institutions. This college has contributed to the production of high-quality human resources in the health-care field and will continue to do so in the future. We take pride in instilling in our students compassion, empathy, and a desire to serve the rural population.
